About

Welcome to Tasting Calabria!  I’m Toni, daughter of Italian (Calabrese) immigrants who came to the US with my siblings a year before I was born.  With so much information out there about Italian (and Italian-American) food, the focus of this little blog of mine is to spotlight the lesser-known cuisine and recipes of Calabria, the toe of Italy’s boot.

The recipes I’m sharing are those my mother made while we were growing up in upstate NY; my favorites – all homemade and many made using vegetables from my father’s garden.  Where I can I pepper (get it 😉) recipes with a little related history or a story or two that goes along with the food.

One more thing.  In Italy dishes and how they are prepared vary from region to region, province to province, town to town, and family to family.  All of this to say that there is no one or definitive right way to prepare a dish.  These are the ones I enjoy the most and learned (and am still learning) how to make. I’d like to share my family recipes and I hope you enjoy making them and eating them as much as I do!
